Celebrating Collaboration: The Team Behind OPUS and the Next Stage for Performance

Innovation is a journey, not a destination. As we work to bring OPUS, the next stage for performance, to life, we are reminded of the critical role that collaboration plays in making the unthinkable possible. Our journey is fuelled by the creativity and expertise of our team, partners, and the incredible artists we've had the privilege to work with across R&D and production.

Pioneering Innovation with Four Door Productions

Our long-standing partnership with Four Door Productions has been instrumental in designing and developing OPUS. Together, we've overcome the challenges of integrating with diverse volumetric systems, creating a seamless and exciting user experience through the OPUS app platform. Their technical prowess and commitment to pushing boundaries have been invaluable to our progress.

Creative Synergy with Animorf

Working with Animorf, an exciting creative collective based in Bristol and Brazil, has brought a new level of creativity to the OPUS project. Their expertise in animation, storytelling, and CGI, combined with a passion for AR/XR development, has helped shape the OPUS app platform into a dynamic and immersive experience. As new partners, their fresh perspective and innovative approach have been a breath of fresh air.

Reimagining Opera with the Jette Parker Artists Programme

Collaboration with the team from the Jette Parker Artists Programme and talented artists has allowed us to explore the future of opera. Together, we have designed and produced a new type of opera performance, reimagining Tamino’s famous aria from Mozart’s The Magic Flute with a modern twist for immersive performance. This collaboration exemplifies how tradition and innovation can coexist beautifully.

A Digital Leap Forward with Birmingham Royal Ballet

Our collaboration with Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) marks a pivotal moment in both ballet and digital innovation. Known for its excellence and dedication to evolving the art form, BRB is embracing the future by integrating digital technologies into its repertoire. Together, we are celebrating the changing face of ballet, blending tradition with technology to create immersive performances that captivate audiences.

Exploring Mobile-First Volumetric Video with Volograms

Our partnership with Volograms has opened up exciting possibilities in mobile-first volumetric video. By capturing powerful poetry and placing it in inspiring locations, we’ve created poignant experiences like For the Fallen, performed by Martin Wright and placed next to a war memorial for Armistice Day. This project demonstrates the power of location-based storytelling.

Breaking New Ground with Good Measure Studio and Condense

Working with Good Measure Studio and Condense has pushed the limits of the Condense system, allowing us to capture and produce original performances while exploring new integrations and planning live shows for virtual audiences. Their willingness to experiment and collaborate with diverse, innovative artists has been essential in expanding the horisons of what OPUS can achieve.

Innovative Exploration with CCIXR Portsmouth Uni

Our collaboration with CCIXR Portsmouth Uni has enabled us to explore the 4DViews volumetric system and integrate demo performances. Together, we are discussing exciting R&D and commercial innovation opportunities that promise to redefine the future of immersive media.

Creative Engagement with Loughborough London MA Students

Finally, our work with MA students from Loughborough London on the Collaborative Projects has been a testament to the power of creative engagement. With 50+ students creating 12 pitches and presenting them at the Collaborative Project Show in the Plexal building at Here East, we've explored themes like Chinese culture, street arts, and supporting local businesses. This project underscores the importance of fostering young talent and innovation.

Alongside these organisations, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some fantastic artists and performers:

Dzifa Benson, poet and writer.

Jeremiah ‘Sugar J’ Brown, poet, photographer, spoken word artist.

Anamaria ‘Anman Land’ Burbuli, composer, singer, visual artist.

Lufuno Ndou, jazz singer.

K’antu Ensemble, medieval music trio.

WomanEwer, contemporary dance group.

Zach Woods, composer and dancer.

Saif Rahman, music man and all round collaborator.

Tribe Arts, radical performance and media production group.

A Journey into the Unknown

The Next Stage isn't a single thing or finish line; it's a journey into the unknown. Our fellow travellers—all the artists, partners, and teams—bring their own knowledge, skills, and experience to the table. OPUS wouldn't be possible without them, and we are grateful for their contributions as we continue to explore and redefine the future of performance.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. We look forward to what lies ahead and to continuing this incredible adventure together.
