Future of Immersive Technology

Last week, Director Pete Gardom was invited to be part of a roundtable on the Immersive Media Podcast by James Taylor, exploring the Future of Immersive Media, alongside Daniel Dyboski-Bryant from Educators in VR and Rob Eagle from the University of West England (UWE).

James teaches on the Immersive Media module at Cardiff University. This NEW podcast is to introduce students to some of the, “professionals, practitioners, and researchers working in this field…to help give you an insight into the industry and their own experience.”

All participants are self-proclaimed creative technologists, developers and producers, rather than hard coders or technologists. So, the conversation looks less at the technical capabilities of new tech and more at the creative applications and implications of using them.

we spoke about some exciting trends that we’re experiencing, including the rapid spread digital creation tools; the transition from ‘digital strategy’ (getting people to and through your door) to ‘digital transformation’ (reimagining how, where and why you might use technologies); the evolution of ‘spatialised’ narrative- and design-thinking; the continued importance of creative partners // consultants to mediate between client teams and specialist developers; the creation of many new and diverse new jobs; and the vital importance of collaborative and co-creative practices to make these technologies accessible, as well as to bring diverse stakeholders and participants together to develop and work towards a shared vision.

A huge thank you to James for the invitation and to Daniel and Rob for a really engaging and insightful look at the future of Immersive Technology.
